Hot take: 90% of agency review sites are just paid ads in disguise

Checked out a top-rated PPC agency on Clutch last week, saw glowing reviews, then found out the owner bought the same reviewer a round of golf. Three years ago I almost signed with a $10k/month SEO shop that had perfect Trustpilot scores, but a friend at a meetup in Austin told me they paid for 50 of those reviews. How do you actually vet an agency when the review platforms are rigged?

Funny enough, my buddy once hired an agency that had killer Trustpilot ratings and then found out the owner was writing fake reviews from his mom's basement in Phoenix.

Oh man, that is way too common! I had a similar thing happen where this agency had amazing reviews but every single client story sounded exactly the same, you know? @brookethomas, my buddy's a writer and he got hired to ghostwrite positive reviews for a company that paid him in crypto, sketchy stuff.
