Rant: Spent $350 on a cheap social media management agency
Hired a budget agency on Upwork last quarter to handle Instagram and Twitter for my small renovation company. Paid them $350 upfront for a month of posts and engagement. They gave me generic stock photos of tools and copy that felt like a robot wrote it. After 3 weeks they stopped responding and my engagement actually dropped. Anybody else get burned by a low-cost agency promising quick results?

Got burned the exact same way last year. Paid a "bargain" agency $300 for a month and they literally copy-pasted the same caption on every post for 2 weeks before ghosting me. My follower count went down because the bot replies were so obvious customers thought my account got hacked. Weirdest part was they promised specific local hashtags for my city and used hashtags for a completely different state the whole time. Never again.

My cousin runs a similar company and he tried the same thing. The wild part is that $350 is actually below the break-even point for real human labor in a month. Do the math - even at $10 an hour, that covers maybe 35 hours total for content creation, posting, and engagement across two platforms. You're basically paying for a bot farm at that price, not actual people, and these "agencies" just run templates until you complain enough to leave.
