Rant: the agency I hired had 4 reviews from the same IP address and I only spotted it after digging through their Google page
I was about to sign a $2,400 per month contract with a small SEO agency here in Austin when something felt off about their reviews. All 4 five star ratings came in on the same day back in March, and when I clicked the profiles, 3 of them had literally zero other reviews anywhere on Google. I called the agency to ask about it and the guy goes, and I quote, "those are just loyal clients who don't use Google much." I passed and went with a solo freelancer who had 11 reviews spread out over 2 years instead. Has anyone else caught fake review patterns like this before signing, and what tipped you off?

Same exact thing happened to me with a web design shop two years ago. Six reviews, five of them posted within a 48 hour window, and every single profile was brand new with no photo and no other activity. The kicker was two of the reviews used the same weird phrase about "going above and beyond," like word for word. I walked too and found a guy who had reviews going back to 2019 with real back and forth replies from him. Good call trusting your gut on that one.
