That "results guaranteed" contract clause came back to bite me

Signed a 6 month SEO retainer with a small agency in Austin that promised top 3 rankings for my main keyword, and my own lawyer warned me the guarantee was pure marketing fluff. Three months in they actually hit #1 for a completely different keyword that nobody searches for, then used that as proof they earned their $2,500 monthly fee. Has anyone else had an agency twist a vague contract line into a win they can brag about?
