Burned the first batch of chicken wings so bad I set off the smoke detector

Last Tuesday I was at my apartment in Austin, trying out this new dry rub recipe I saw online. Set the air fryer to 400 degrees and walked away for 15 minutes. Came back to black smoke pouring out and the detector screaming. Turns out I didn't pat the wings dry first, so the sugar in the rub just charred. Had to open all the windows and wave a towel around for 10 minutes. Wings were a total loss. Has anyone else had a smoke bomb moment with their air fryer?

Yeah, you gotta dry those things first.
