Heard a dude at work say air fryers are just mini convection ovens and it got me thinking

I was grabbing my coat after a double shift and overheard one of the waiters telling a new hire that air fryers are basically just tiny convection ovens and not worth the hype. It kind of rubbed me the wrong way because I've had my air fryer for about a year now and it's been a lifesaver for quick meals after work. Sure, it's the same basic concept with a fan blowing hot air around, but the size and speed make a real difference for someone like me who comes home at 11pm and wants crispy fries in 12 minutes flat. I don't think I'd ever preheat my full oven for a single chicken thigh or a handful of frozen mozzarella sticks, you know? That said, he had a point that you can do most air fryer recipes in a regular oven if you've got the patience and time. Has anyone else had a cook or server tell you your air fryer is overrated before you got to defend it?

Gave my air fryer to my sister after I burned popcorn in it twice.
