Just realized I've been overcrowding my air fryer this whole time

I was making chicken wings last night and they came out all soggy and sad. My buddy came over and saw me pile them in there and he was like "dude you're basically steaming them." He said you gotta leave space between each piece so the air can actually circulate. Tried it with just half the wings and they came out perfect and crispy in 18 minutes. Does anyone else make this mistake or am I the only one who missed this basic rule?

Shaking the basket halfway works great for fries but wings need that space from the start.

Hear me out though, sometimes overcrowding works if you shake the basket halfway through. I've done it with fries and small stuff and they still come out fine, just gotta give them a good toss. Maybe wings are different because of the moisture, idk.
