My air fryer almost caught fire last night and I had to rethink everything

I was making frozen chicken wings at 400 degrees around 9 PM when I started smelling something burning. Opened the basket and saw oil dripping from the tray onto the heating element, creating this little flame. I freaked out and unplugged it fast, then let it cool down and scrubbed the whole thing with soap and water. Turns out I hadn't cleaned the bottom tray in like 3 weeks and all that grease buildup was the problem. Has anyone else had a close call like this with their air fryer?

Yeah totally been there, @jade_butler that parchment paper story is terrifying. My grease fire scare was bad enough, I can't imagine what a bonfire would feel like.

Oh I feel this so hard (my air fryer has definitely been a fire hazard more times than I'd like to admit). I once left a parchment paper liner in and it literally turned into a tiny bonfire mid-cook.
