My air fryer basket coating started peeling after 4 months

I got a new air fryer back in March and the nonstick coating on the basket is flaking off in little black pieces. I only use silicone tongs and hand wash it, so I'm not sure what went wrong. Has anyone else had their basket coating fail like this or is there a way to fix it without buying a whole new unit?

Tossed mine in the trash after three months. Same thing happened. Little black flakes all over my fries. Didn't even use metal utensils ever. Found out later some brands just have cheap coating from China. Bought a stainless steel basket replacement instead. Not nonstick but it won't kill me.

Yeah, the cheap coating from China thing is real. I fell for it too with a cheap air fryer basket. Replaced mine with a stainless steel mesh basket and honestly it's way better. Doesn't stick much if you spray a little oil first and you don't have to worry about flaking. Also feels cleaner to me because you can scrub it without ruining anything.
