My air fryer burned the toast, not the food, and I'm still confused

Last Tuesday I set my new air fryer to 400 for 8 minutes on some frozen fries and they came out perfect, but my wife's morning toast in the same basket came out charcoal black. Has anyone else noticed a weird hot spot near the back of their basket, or is it just my unit?
