Rant: My frozen french fry experiment turned into a three hour project
I got it in my head last weekend to make the perfect frozen fries in the air fryer. I wanted them crisp outside, fluffy inside, you know the dream. The bag said 15 minutes at 400 degrees. Easy. An hour and a half later, I was still pulling out soggy, pale sticks. I tried soaking them first, I tried a light oil spray, I even tried that cornstarch trick I saw online. Nothing worked. I must have run that basket six separate times. Finally, on the seventh try, I cranked it to 425 for 22 minutes and shook the basket every five minutes like my life depended on it. They finally came out decent, but I was exhausted. Has anyone else found a foolproof method for a specific brand? I was using the store brand crinkle cuts from my local Kroger.

That "three hour project" feeling is so real. It's like modern life sells us this idea of convenience, but the small print is a ton of failed tries and extra work. The bag says 15 minutes but it never accounts for your specific machine or the fact that the fries are basically just wet starch. We end up doing all this testing that the factory should have done for us. It turns a simple snack into a whole science experiment you never signed up for.

Just air fry them, way less hassle.

Honestly, my air fryer and I are in a constant battle of wills. It's like it knows when I'm really hungry and decides to just... steam things instead. Last time I tried fries they came out looking like sad, pale little sticks. Guess I'm still part of that science experiment group.
