Vent: My air fryer toast was soggy for 6 months, all my own fault

I kept making toast in my air fryer and it always came out weirdly chewy, not crispy at all. Last Tuesday my buddy Dave watched me pile 4 slices on top of each other and just lost it laughing. He pointed at the little metal rack thing in the basket and said 'you know that's for airflow, right?' I never even unpacked it from the box after buying it at Target back in October. Now I use it and my toast is actually toast, so I guess I'm just dumb. Anyone else skip the rack and wonder why stuff came out weird?
