Deferred maintenance bit me on a CRJ200 last month in Tulsa
Had a bird strike on the radome during a quick turn. Nothing major, just some minor cracking on the outer skin. Checked the logbook and saw a write-up from 3 years ago about a hairline crack that got deferred with a limit. My lead said oh that's fine, it's within limits. Two weeks later the same spot opened up during a pressure cycle test and we had to pull the whole radome. The deferral had been extended twice by different stations, nobody ever looked at the actual damage growth. Now I photograph every deferred item I sign off with a ruler in the shot. Any of you guys got burned trusting an old deferral that should have been fixed years ago?
