Looked at an engine at a small regional field last week and caught something off about the logbook entry

The last annual inspection had a signature that didn't match the work listed for the cylinder replacement, has anyone else run into forged sign-offs in logbooks at smaller repair stations?

Guess they were hoping you wouldn't notice the signature is from a guy who retired in 2008.

Hold on but what if the signature itself is a decoy? Like maybe they wanted people to spot the old guy's name so they'd stop looking at the actual date or the fine print on the back. I ran into this once with a concert ticket where the hologram was totally real but the venue logo was from a place that closed ten years ago. Nobody ever checks the venue logo, everyone just looks at the band name and the date. So maybe the signature being from a retired guy is meant to distract you from something way bigger that's hiding in plain sight, like a missing stamp or a forged watermark.
