The day I figured out I was overtorquing spark plugs for years
I was changing plugs on a Cessna 172 last week and the old ones came out way too easy. A senior mechanic walked over and said, "You're not supposed to Hulk them in, you know." He showed me the torque specs in the manual I'd been ignoring for 8 years. Has anyone else had a routine habit that was actually wrong the whole time?

That kind of thing happens a lot more than people want to admit. We all pick up shortcuts early on and just keep doing them without checking if they're actually right. A little time spent reading the manual or asking a pro can save a lot of headaches later.

Yeah, but what's your go-to shortcut that you later found out was totally wrong?
