The left main gear pin on a Cessna 172 that would not come out, and the hammer I should not have grabbed
I was doing a 100 hour inspection at our hangar in Boise last month when the gear pin on the left main just would not budge, and the new kid handed me a hammer before I thought it through. I tapped it once and the whole thing mushroomed, so I spent the next 40 minutes with a punch and a file fixing the mess I made instead of just spraying some Kroil and waiting like I should have. Has anyone else had a pin seize up that bad, and what are you using to break them loose without wrecking the threads?
