Took 10 years to finally trust the torque wrench on landing gear

Last month I was torquing main gear bolts on a 737 and the handle felt way off, so I re-checked with the old beam style and sure enough it was 12 ft-lbs under. I used to think digital wrenches were just fancy toys, but after watching a senior inspector catch a stripped thread on a strut that way, I started double-checking everything. Has anyone else had a calibrated tool fail on them at the worst possible moment?
