Torque wrench calibration sticker saved me from a nightmare landing gear job
I used to just trust the click and go, never thinking about when the last calibration was done. Then last month I grabbed a wrench off the rack that said certified 3 months ago, but the logbook showed it was actually 14 months overdue, someone slapped a new sticker without sending it out. The bolt torqued fine on the bench, but when the inspector checked it with his digital wrench it was 12% off, that would have been a catastrophic failure on a main gear attach fitting. Now I check the calibration date inside the case and tag the handle with a sharpie before I even start. Anyone else run into phantom stickers like that or am I the only one getting burned?
