Fished a keypad wire through a 1890s plaster wall in Annapolis, and I am now a fish tape convert
Two options on an old brick colonial last Tuesday: cut a channel and patch it, or fish the wire with a coiled steel tape I had never used before. I went with the fish tape to keep the plaster intact, and after 40 minutes of wrestling it around a corner it finally popped through the hole. Since that job I have used the tape on three more old houses and it beats drywall repair every time. Anyone got a trick for when the cavity has old newspaper stuffed inside it?
Held a buddy's ladder while he fished a wall packed with old newspaper, thing kept snagging every two feet. He finally taped a shop vac hose to the end and sucked the paper out as he went. Worked like a charm.
