Had to tweak motion detectors after a cat kept tripping them
I used to crank up motion detector sensitivity to max for full coverage. After a job where a house cat caused constant false alarms, I dialed it back. Now I'm torn between catching every move and keeping alerts reliable. Where do you stand on setting sensitivity for homes with pets?

Oh, I read that mounting detectors higher up ignores pets but still catches people. Have you tried that placement trick?

It's a common tip, but height doesn't guarantee pets will be ignored. They can still trigger sensors by jumping or climbing.

My friend's tabby cat regularly jumps onto their seven-foot bookshelf. That totally blows the whole height trick out of the water. Even with detectors near the ceiling, a determined pet can find a way. I had mine mounted high and my dog still triggered it by standing on his hind legs. Pets don't follow the rules we set for them. It's wild how people think a few inches will make all the difference.
