I finally started using a wire coat hanger to fish cables through insulated walls
Had a two story house in Tucson last month with blown in insulation and no attic access on the lower floor. Tried my usual fish tape for almost an hour and it kept snagging on the paper backing. Grabbed a metal hanger, straightened it with a curve at the end, and had the keypad wire pulled through in about ten minutes. It bends around corners way better than the tape and costs nothing. Anyone got a better trick for insulated exterior walls or is the hanger the way to go?
That bit about the curve at the end is the real trick nobody talks about. I've been bending a hook on mine for years but never thought to add a slight offset so it rides along the drywall instead of digging in. How tight are you making that curve though, like a full J or just a small sweep? With blown in behind the paper it seems like anything too sharp would just tear through and grab insulation. Also curious if you taped the wire to the hanger or just hooked it, because that part always falls apart on me halfway up the wall.
