Installing sensors with zip ties for 5 years - what a joke

I was at a job site in Cleveland last Tuesday. Old commercial building. The lead tech from another company walked over and looked at my panel. He asked why I used zip ties on all my sensor wires. I told him because it's fast and clean. He said bro those things loosen up after a few months with temperature changes. He showed me his box. All lacing bars and Velcro. No zip ties anywhere. I went back to 3 jobs from last year and checked. Sure enough half the bundles were sagging. That's why I had 2 service calls for false alarms. I felt like an idiot. Has anyone else had zip ties fail on them like this?

Nah man, zip ties are fine if you install them right. They only sag if you pull them too loose or don't trim the tails properly. Velcro collects dust and looks messy over time, plus it's way slower to use than a good zip tie gun.

Is it just me or do people who hate on zip ties always forget that you can get reusable ones these days? I switched to the ones with the little release tab a few years back and never looked back. They hold just as tight as regular ones but you can undo them if you mess up, plus no ugly tails to trim. And yeah, totally agree on the velcro thing. I tried it once in my entertainment center and within six months it looked like a dust bunny farm back there. Zip ties for life, man.
