Ran 22 gauge wire for a full house alarm because I was too lazy to walk back to the truck for the 18 gauge

Shame on me. It was a new build in Phoenix, 3500 square feet, two stories. I had the spool of 22 in my hand and just told myself it would be fine. The door contacts worked great. The motion detectors were sketchy from day one. Had to go back six months later and rerun half the zones. Cost me a whole Saturday and the homeowner watched me the whole time. Never again. How do you guys handle being on a ladder and realizing you grabbed the wrong wire?
