Rant: guy in Tulsa asked me why his panel kept beeping every night at 2am, and what he showed me made my stomach drop
He called me out to a house near 41st and Yale and the whole time he kept saying his old installer told him the beeping was just a low battery warning to ignore. When I popped the panel cover, every zone was wired to the same two terminals with speaker wire, no resistors, nothing. I asked who did it and he pulls out a receipt from a guy who charged him $650 and left a handwritten note that said "good luck with the beeps." That panel had been unprotected for 14 months and he had no idea. Has anyone else run into speaker wire used as zone wire, and do you tell the homeowner or just fix it and move on?
