Remember pulling wire through finished walls before fish tapes were common?
Back in the early 2000s, I'd spend half a day on a single retrofit, using a coat hanger and a lot of luck. Now, with a good glow rod and a magnetic puller, I can do the same job in under an hour. The change came around 2010 when the cost of those tools dropped and they became standard in every van. What's the one old-school method you're glad we don't have to use anymore?

Remember trying to snake a line with a bundle of fiberglass rods taped together that would always come apart at the worst moment. The feeling when the tip got stuck in some insulation and you had to start all over was the worst. I don't miss fighting with that mess for a whole afternoon on a simple drop.

Oh come on, it wasn't that bad! A little tape and patience usually got the job done. Sounds like you just had bad luck with your old kit.

Bad luck" is a nice way to put it, but that stuff was just junk. You'd get the rods taped up, go to push, and the whole thing would just fold on itself in the wall. @aaron845 is totally right about the tip getting stuck, but even when it worked, you were sweating for an hour on one line. Calling it a "little tape and patience" is wild, that was a full day's fight for a simple job. Modern tools just don't have those problems.
