Showerthought: That one screw that takes 45 minutes to find
I had a job last week in a old house where the panel cover plate was missing a screw. Nothing major, just a standard #6-32. I figured five minutes to grab one from the truck. Two hours later I had dug through three different bins, checked every spare bag in my van, and finally drove to the hardware store. It turned out the thread pitch was slightly different than what I usually carry. Has anyone else had a simple part turn into a half-day detour on a job?

Man tell me about it, spent forever hunting a weird torx bit that wasn't even the right size in the end.

Third one down in my beat-up tool drawer. Not the T20 you wanted, not the T25 you borrowed from your buddy last week. Just sitting there all snug and useless. We've all got that drawer. The one with the random 7mm socket, a single allen key from IKEA, and a flathead screwdriver that looks like it fought a war. That torx bit is living in that drawer now, right next to the weird security bit from a public restroom stall.
