Tried to reuse old 22 gauge wire on a panel swap in Tulsa, learned my lesson fast
Did a panel upgrade for a homeowner on Riverside Drive and figured I'd save time by keeping the existing 22 gauge wire for the zones since it tested fine on the meter. About 20 minutes after I powered everything back up, zone 3 started showing a fault and I could not figure out why until I pulled the wire and saw the insulation was cracked near the staple points from the old install. Ended up rerunning all 6 zones with fresh 22/4 and it took me an extra 3 hours, but it has been solid for 8 months now. Any of you still try to reuse old wire on swaps or do you just rip it all out no matter what?
