Vent: I was at a diner in Omaha and saw their alarm panel was just a picture of a panel taped to the wall

I was grabbing lunch at this little diner off I-80 last week and glanced at the back office door. They had a fake alarm keypad, like a printed photo of one, stuck up with clear packing tape. I mean, it was a color printout from an inkjet, idk. The owner saw me looking and said, 'It keeps the honest people honest, right?' I just nodded and ate my burger. Has anyone else run into a 'decorative' security system that was just for show?

I get what you're saying about it pointing out a weak spot, but my take is a little different. For a small diner, the main worry is probably a quick smash and grab. That fake panel works on a first look. Most thieves are in a hurry and just want an easy target. Seeing any kind of system, even a fake one, can make them move on to the next place. It's about stopping the casual crime, not the pros.

Honestly, that feels like a bad move. It just tells the dishonest people exactly where the real weak spots are, you know? Kinda puts a target on the place.
