Why does nobody talk about hiding panel wiring behind drywall vs surface mount?

I keep seeing these installs where guys run wires exposed along the wall and call it a day. But I've had 3 homeowners in Denver last month complain about the look and want me to redo everything behind the sheetrock. On the other hand, surface mount is way faster and easier to service later. What do you all think is the better approach for residential jobs?

Faster and easier to service later" is exactly right. But that doesn't matter if the customer hates looking at it and wants it hidden. I'd rather do it right the first time and fish wires behind drywall than do a redo for free. Surface mount is for basements and garages, not living rooms.

That 3rd homeowner who complained, did they know surface mount was the plan going in?
