Wireless vs hardwired in old brick buildings, hardwired wins every time
I spent 6 weeks doing retrofit work in a 1920s apartment block near downtown Cleveland. The owner insisted on wireless sensors because he thought it would be faster and cheaper. Three units in, we had constant signal dropouts through the plaster and lath walls. The repeaters we added cost more than the wire would have. We ended up pulling wire anyway for half the zones just to get reliable door contacts. The wireless gear now sits in a closet as backup. Hardwired took an extra day per unit but zero callbacks since. Anyone else deal with old building signal issues that made you ditch wireless mid-project?
Six weeks in a 1920s building and the owner still thought wireless would be the cheap way out? That plaster and lath eats signals for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. You basically paid twice, once for the gear and once for the wire you had to pull anyway.
