Can we talk about the concrete guy who walked off the job in Red Deer and left me with a half-poured pad
So back in May I hired this outfit out of Red Deer to pour a 24x30 pad for a shop I'm building on my acreage near Penhold. Everything seemed fine, quote was $11,000, deposit was $3,500, and his references checked out. Day three he shows up with one guy, no forms for the north edge, and starts asking me for another $2,000 because "the ground was harder than he figured." I said no, we signed a contract, and he packed up his mixer and drove off with my deposit still in his pocket. I ended up calling a guy from Sylvan Lake who came out on a Saturday, looked at the mess, and gave me a straight number instead of a song and dance. He had to demo the half-poured section, redo the gravel, and we finally poured six weeks later than planned. Cost me $4,800 more than the original quote when you add the demo and the rental fees for gear I shouldn't have needed. Anyone got a solid way to vet these guys before handing over a deposit, because the reference calls clearly weren't enough.
