Had a client in Fort McMurray insist I use his 'special' homemade concrete mix
It set up so fast we had to finish the pad with trowels in one hand and a garden hose in the other to keep the edges wet. Anyone ever have a homeowner's DIY recipe completely backfire on a job?

You ever test the batch before dumping it? I learned the hard way to always do a quick set time check on site with a small cup of the mix before committing. Keep a bag of plain Portland and extra water in the truck too, you can sometimes slow down an accelerator disaster by tossing in a retarder on the fly. That guy was probably trying to save money with extra calcium, ended up costing you both a headache and maybe the pad's longevity.

Oh man, that sounds rough. But honestly, I kinda get where the guy was coming from. Sometimes you just want to try your own thing, you know?

Yeah spencer_thomas4, that push to do your own thing is real. When my old team kept shooting down my ideas, I just built a quick, ugly version over a weekend to prove it could work. Showing them the actual thing, even with its flaws, got way more traction than any slide deck ever did. Sometimes you gotta stop asking and start making.
