Contractor told me my door frames were out by 3/16 inch - he was right

I was slapping up pre-hung doors thinking close enough was good enough until a trim carpenter called me out on a new build in Rio Rancho. Since then I've been checking every frame with a 4-foot level and shimming properly, has anyone else had to eat crow on their framing work?

Yeah, "close enough was good enough" really hits home for me... It's funny how that same attitude shows up in so many other things too, not just framing. I've noticed people do it with cooking, like eyeballing measurements, and then wonder why the recipe turns out wrong. Or even with something simple like hanging a picture frame - you think it's straight until someone else walks in and tilts their head at it. It's like we're all just rushing through stuff, and it takes an outsider to remind us that the little details actually matter...
