Cut a hole in the wrong spot on my kitchen wall yesterday

I was putting in a new range hood vent and marked where the duct should go. Turns out I forgot there was a stud right in the middle of where I cut. Ended up having to patch a 8 inch hole with drywall and reroute the duct through the cabinet above instead. Whole thing took an extra 4 hours. Has anyone else hit a hidden stud when doing something simple like this?

Pulled the same move last year trying to mount a TV. Measured everything twice, still managed to drill right into a pipe behind the wall. Had to patch a hole bigger than my head and rerun the cable through the ceiling. Spent more time fixing my mistake than actually hanging the TV. At least your story makes me feel less alone and slightly less stupid.

and the worst part is you can't even be mad at yourself because you literally did the thing you were supposed to do. measured twice, checked for studs with the little detector thing, still missed the pipe by like half an inch. had to cut open the drywall and use one of those push-to-connect fittings just to feel like i had any control over the situation. honestly think home improvement is just a series of lessons on how to patch your own screw ups.
