Hot take: you don't need a moisture meter for most ABQ wall repairs
Every other post I see here says grab a moisture meter before patching any interior wall. I think that's overkill for 90% of the work people do around here. I've been fixing plaster and drywall in my 1960s Nob Hill house for 5 years now and never owned one. The trick is just looking for water stains, soft spots, or peeling paint with your own eyes. My neighbor spent $70 on a pinless meter and it showed high moisture behind his kitchen backsplash. Turns out it was just the tile glue reacting to humidity. If you're not dealing with a known leak or flood zone, save your cash and trust your hands. A moisture meter has its place but most of these ABQ diy posts act like its essential for every patch job. Am I missing something or are people just overthinking basic wall repair?
