Ripped out my old drywall corner bead method after a pro showed me a better way
I used to do corner bead with those paper faced metal strips you get at Lowe's for like $8 a pack. They always bubbled up on me or I'd dent them trying to get the mud smooth. Last month I was helping a buddy tape his garage in the North Valley and he handed me a roll of vinyl corner bead with this adhesive strip down the middle. No staples, no nails, just peel and stick. I figured it'd peel off in a week but it's been six weeks and that stuff is solid. The mud goes on way thinner too because you don't have to bury metal. Has anyone else switched from metal to vinyl and noticed a big difference in how fast the job goes?

I read an article from a drywall supply company that said the vinyl bead actually flexes more than metal and won't crack along the seam if the house settles. That made me switch for my whole basement project. The adhesive backing saved me a ton of time not having to shoot nails every six inches.

Wait hold on, the adhesive backing? No way. You mean you just peeled and stuck that sucker on and it actually held? I've been shooting nails for years on every bead I've ever done. I'm sitting here picturing a whole basement with those vinyl beads just stuck on with tape and my brain is struggling to process it. Did you have to press it down real hard or something? I'm half tempted to try a corner just to see if my mind gets blown.
