Had a customer insist I use their 'special' screwdriver set instead of my Wera tools

The 'special' set was a plastic toy from a cereal box, and it snapped on the first Phillips head. Anyone else run into a client's 'better' idea that was clearly not?

Remember that sometimes the customer just needs to see their idea fail. Letting them use the toy tool was probably the fastest way to get back to your good gear. It's a frustrating but effective lesson for everyone.

Sounds like their special tool was a cereal prize. Guess they wanted a free toy with their repair.

Honestly, letting it fail feels like a waste of my time and their money. That broken plastic piece could have flown off and caused an injury. My job is to do the work right and safe the first time. Part of that is politely insisting on using the proper tools I brought for the job. It's not about ego, it's about knowing what won't break.

Can we bill them for the plastic shrapnel too?
