Heads up on those new Samsung fridge ice makers from 3 years ago, the ones with the plastic auger motor housing
Just had to replace the whole assembly for the third time in a week because the housing cracks and seizes, costing a customer in Tampa over $300 in parts before we even got to labor.

Wasn't grease just a band-aid, but seeing it fail again changed my mind.

Totally agree with you both on that. I tried the food-grade grease trick on a couple of stubborn ones and it did buy maybe an extra season before the plastic started cracking again. It's still a band-aid, but sometimes a band-aid is all you need to get by until you can do a real fix.

Ugh, we see that all the time... I started using a little food-grade grease on the auger shaft during installs. It seems to buy some extra time before the plastic gives out again. Not a real fix, but it helps.
