Just saw a dryer that went from a 45-minute cycle to under 20 after I swapped the heating element and cleaned the vent path.

The homeowner said it had been getting slower for about four months, but the real fix was finding that crushed section of flexible duct behind the unit, you ever run into that where the symptom points one way but the cause is another?

Oh yeah, that's classic. You chase the obvious part, like the heating element, but the real problem is hiding in plain sight. I've pulled out so many of those accordion ducts that were just pancaked flat against the wall from the dryer being shoved back.

Used to think a slow dryer was always the heating element going bad. Finding a crushed vent behind a unit like that totally changed my view. Now I check the whole airflow path first every single time.
