Old timer told me to trust the vent, I thought he was lazy

A retired HVAC guy I met on a job in Toledo kept saying lint traps are worthless if the dryer vent run is too long. I figured he was just cutting corners, but I finally measured one of my problem customers' runs at 28 feet with three bends. Opened up the wall and found a crushed flex duct behind the drywall. Replaced it with rigid pipe and the dry time dropped by 20 minutes. Anyone else ever find hidden damage that made you rethink your initial read?

Vent length matters more than most folks figure, that's for sure.
