Overheard a homeowner call a water heater a kettle, different animal

Ngl, this lady in Phoenix pointed at a 50-gallon tank and asked why my 'kettle' took 40 minutes to boil. I laughed so hard I almost dropped my multimeter, but it made me realize how far we are from what customers actually picture. Anyone else get customer comments that make you stop and double check your sanity?

Notice how people name things by what they look like, not what they do. A water heater looks like a giant kettle, so that's what they call it. Same reason folks call every SUV a Jeep or every tissue a Kleenex. It's not about being dumb, it's just how our brains file things away. We see the shape first and the function second.
