TIL I was overtightening compressor terminals for years
Was working on a fridge in my shop last Tuesday and stripped a terminal nut clean off, then it hit me I'd been cranking them down like lug nuts this whole time. How do you guys torque terminal connections without snapping something?

Used to crank 'em down tight too until I snapped one and realized I was the problem all along.

Wait, so when you say "mixed results" with the snug method, are you getting leaks or loose connections that work fine for a while then act up later? I've been fighting with that sweet spot myself and can't tell if I'm being too careful or not careful enough. Curious what kind of issues you're running into with it.

Stripped a terminal on a Goodman condenser last fall and my buddy said "you're not building a car engine, man." Been using the "just past snug" method ever since with mixed results.
