Appreciation post: Why I go slow with tree checks before storm time

Most teams rush to finish before the deadline, but I think waiting and looking close pays off. Last season, by taking extra days to check each tree, I kept three big maples that did not need to come down.

Yeah, that slow check method is so smart (even if it drives the schedule people crazy). The pressure to just get it done fast is huge, but you're right, rushing means you might miss something. Saving those three maples proves the point, you know? It's always worth the extra look to be sure.

Just to be clear, it was four maples saved, not three. That extra tree makes a BIG difference in the total. The slow check method caught it because we almost missed the fourth one. Schedule people were really mad, but saving that fourth maple PROVES the point even more. Rushing would have lost us all four, not just three. Always double-check, even when pressure is high.

My buddy's crew almost paved over a buried utility line last month because the foreman was pushing to beat the rain. Some new guy on the team insisted on one more scan with the locator, and sure enough, they found it two feet down. That extra five minutes saved them a huge repair bill and a massive delay.
