One storm call in Austin turned into a 14-hour day and I still think about it

We showed up thinking it was just a broken limb over a garage but the whole crown was split down the middle with power lines tangled in it, and after we got the crane in and the utility guys finally showed I had to tell the homeowner the quote was $2,400 more than her insurance adjuster wrote, has anyone else had a simple job spiral like that?

Did the utility company end up covering part of the bill once they saw the mess, or did that whole fight fall on you and the homeowner? Cause I've had situations where the power company would only touch their own gear and leave the tree work hanging, and then you're stuck in the middle of two people who don't want to pay. That gap between what the adjuster writes and what the job actually costs is brutal, especially when you've already got the crane on site and the clock running. How did she handle it when you dropped that number on her?
