Dropped $95 on a "museum quality" fossil prep kit in March and my trilobite still looks like a potato
Bought it at a rock shop in Moab after the guy behind the counter swore it was what the real prep labs use. Fine picks, air scribe, the whole setup. Two months in and I've chipped more shell than I've exposed. Turns out the scribe runs way too hot for the shale I'm working on and nobody warned me. For $95 I could have just bought a prep lab's leftover bulk matrix and practiced on that instead. Anyone have a cheap setup that actually works on soft shale, or do I just need way more patience than I have?
