Honestly saw a whole documentary about this. They think it's part of the Minoan civilization that got wiped out by that huge volcano eruption. The maps show what looks like streets and building foundations way down there. It's wild to think a whole town just sank. Makes you wonder how much history is still hidden under the water.

Which documentary was it, @the_miles? I've seen a few but they always argue about the location. Some say it's off Crete, others say it's a different site entirely. The street grid they show is pretty convincing though.

The same thing happens above ground too though. Whole towns just get forgotten and buried under parking lots and strip malls.
