Just compared the 1998 and 2024 excavation photos from the Çatalhöyük site
I was looking at the old dig reports from the first team and the pictures from the current project, and the whole mound looks totally different now, way more carved out and organized. It's crazy what 25 years of careful work and better tech can do to a place. Has anyone else followed a long-term site and been shocked by the visual change?

Reminds me of watching my hometown's old quarry get turned into a park over decades. You'd see a photo from the 80s and it was just a raw, jagged hole in the ground. Now it's all smooth slopes and walking paths, completely reshaped by slow, steady effort. Makes you realize how much any place can transform when people keep at it.

Oh man, @rowan_black, that's such a good point. It's wild how much a place can heal and change like that. Gives you a little hope for other spots, you know?
