Just read about a huge Roman coin hoard found in a field in Suffolk

I was looking up some local history and found out about the Hoxne Hoard. It's over 15,000 gold and silver coins, plus jewelry and tableware, all buried around 407 AD. The crazy part is a farmer found it in 1992 because he lost a hammer and asked a friend with a metal detector to help look for it. What's the coolest 'accidental' find you've heard about?

Honestly, that hammer story is wild. Makes you wonder how many other huge finds are just inches under the dirt because nobody had a reason to look. What about the stuff that gets found during normal construction work, like when they're just digging a basement or putting in a new road? Any good stories like that?

Yeah, construction crews must hit stuff all the time. What happens when they find something and just quietly cover it back up to avoid delays?

It's like that everywhere though, right? The best stuff is always found when you're looking for something else. I read about a subway tunnel in Rome where they just kept hitting ancient walls and had to reroute the whole line. Makes you wonder what's right under our feet that we'll never see because the project gets approved somewhere less complicated.

It must be so frustrating for archaeologists when that happens.
