That one Tuesday last spring when we uncovered a Roman coin hoard and then it rained solid for three days straight
We pulled 47 bronze coins from a farmer's field near York on the Monday, but the downpour turned the whole trench to mud before we could even map the spot, has anyone else had a perfect dig day ruined by weather like that?

Rain makes the soil easier to sieve through though, you find bits you would have missed.

Yeah for sure. I found the best results when I'd hit the ground right after a good soaking but before it got muddy, like when the top inch is wet but it hasn't turned into a slurry yet. Did a dig in my backyard after a storm and came up with a whole rusted horseshoe and some old glass marbles that I'd completely missed on two dry passes. The rain really does make the clay clumps fall apart way easier, you just have to watch out for stuff sticking to the screen.
