Always thought power tools were better than hand tools until a guy in a shop in Nashville proved me wrong
I watched a furniture maker use only hand planes and chisels to do in 20 minutes what would have taken me an hour with a sander and router. He handed me a No. 4 plane and had me try a single pass on a piece of oak - the finish was glass-smooth, no sanding needed. Has anyone else had a similar moment where a pro showed you a completely different way to work?

Bought a vintage Stanley plane at a flea market years ago, sharpened it up for fun, and tried it on a scrap of walnut. Totally changed how I see wood prep. The surface was smoother than anything I ever got with 220 grit, no dust cloud either. Now I use hand planes for final smoothing on almost everything unless it's a huge production run. It's slower in some ways but the control is way better. Idk, there's something satisfying about tuning a tool instead of just plugging it in.
